What an opportunity!

Wow what a week already. Today was our Midland line Cross Country at Kumara. With a light misty rain we charged through the mud and persevered even with our feet suck in the mud! Check out the students blogs for their event review. On our travels back to school we took a slight detour to Cobden Beach to check out what had washed up!
Below is our moody photograph of the stranded boat. Check out the questions and comment your ideas below.

How did the boat get there?

How is the boat going to get off the shore?

Who will get the boat back afloat?

Will the boat float?

What other questions do you have?

  9. It was a cold and rainy day when this washed up and they had no control over the steering wheel so the waves brought it in and push it to shore. It's has left one or to people with know jobs. The questions I have is how long will it be there? and is it damaged in any way?

  10. I think a big storm washed it ashore. I think that lots of helicopters are going to put ropes around it and pull it out. How did it get there? By Harry and Ruby

  11. I believe that the boat came across from Nelson (had Nelson written on the side). I think that the boat got too close to the shore and got caught in a death-threatening rip, then dragged into the shore. I assume they'll get it out by digging underneath and dragging by another boat.

  16. Q.How did it get there?

A.I think that while it was fishing it got stuck in a rip and was washed to shore or wiped out by a massive wave in a storm. My last theory is that maybe a sharp boulder cut the bottom of the boat and water flooded in and sunk the boat.

  17. The waves are going to dig a hole under the vessel and deepen the boat in the ground. Also 29 tons is a lot of weight and it's going to take lots of machinery to get it out.

  18. The boat might have crashed when it was dark. How did you think the boat got on shore? I think another boat is going to get same rope and pull it back into the sea. How do you think the boat is going to get back on the sea?

  19. I think the fishing boat got stuck there by the windy storm last night. I think fishing boat got stuck and got washed onto the shore. Are the fisherman ok? Could the boat float again? By Alexi and Halyee

  20. I think that the boat got smack by the a wave then got washed up and to get it out they will dig a hole and then they will wait for high tide so i will fill up the hole and float then they will bring it into the shore and then smash it

  21. I think the some huge waves pushed it into the shore and tilted.

  23. How will the boat get out?
Maybe the will get a digger to dig it out and a boat to pull it.
or by the time they got to do it it go washed way.

  24. The boat has been washed up onto the Cobden beach shore because it was to close to the wharf and the wave caught it and pushed it up onto the shore of Cobden beach. I think that the boat will be damaged on the bottom of it.

  25. The Kutere Nelson was heading for tip as the waves got stronger and stronger and sent it ashore. Our Local Road workers are digging a trench for the boat to float ever again. The Only problem... Its going to cost a lot of money to fix the bottom of the boat. -Hunta

  27. I think that waves are going to come in and suck the boat back out to the sea. A crane could lift and take it some where to be fixed

  28. The angry waves pushing the boat and got stuck in a rip and pushed to shore. Stuck in its place getting digged out by workers the fishermen escape to there homes and or helping to free their boat.

  29. The boat is going to be damaged when they get it out of the beach. I think that a digger or bulldozer is going to dig a hole underneath the boat and fix it up. I think the boat is not going to float because the bottom of the boat will have a hole on the bottom of the boat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think the boat will still float with enough water .I think they will get the boat back out by a bulldozer pushing and a boat pulling. the boat got there by the waves that wor to hard and big for the boat to handel.

When I got off the bus with room four and five I walked to cobden beach. And sure a ship in the shallow water.I wonder how it will get back in the sea.Because I saw helicopter land on the beach. The boat could be damaged who knows? maybe it got there because of the waves. The boat was from nelson.I wonder why its on a angele?

  34. I think that a digger could make make this boast float by digging a hole letting water come to lift the boat out.

  35. A massive wave washed it ashore, and a shark took a good chunk of metal out of the bottom of the boat. The hole is easily fixed, get a chunk of metal and stick it on. Get a crane and lift it into the sae.

  40. Hi there Paparoa Range School, I really like this post and how you have put questions that some people want answers to in the post.
I would like to know how many people were on the boat?

  41. Hi Ruma Rima,
I have commented on a few other blog posts of your and I really think that this is a mysterious problem and coincidence. To add to your passage I think that this coincidence happened accidentally by somebody living nearby or the boat did just float to shore.
Keep blogging posts about your learning and experiences and I'll be right to it and start leaving more comments.

  45. Hello there Paparoa Range School,
This is a really interesting post, it sounds like a mystery. I have a few questions. When you went down to the beach was it already there? Also what I wonder is how long has it been there?
